Our Founder’s Story

I had an idea one day to do something to give back to animal shelters and rescue dog organizations. I just wasn’t sure exactly how I could do this with what talent I have (I am a creative/copywriter by trade). One day, I thought… hmmm, I wonder how my art would look on shirts or hoodies. So I mocked up a few and wasn’t really sold on the idea. The next morning, I woke up and a light bulb went off.

I love handbags, so much so that I hand sewed a bunch of custom tote bags for my friends for Christmas 2024. Bolting straight to my Macbook, I mocked up a couple of tote and handbags with my artwork on them. 

I was shocked at how amazing they looked! 

The only name that made sense to me was Bula Bag Co. in honor of my sweet rescue dog, Bula, who passed away in May 2023. Her name means “good life” – so with 10% of proceeds being donated to help rescue organizations, every bag purchase helps give dogs (and other animals) a good life, too!
